Soulja Boy thinks the 2023 MTV VMAs were “wack.” The rapper jumped on X/Twitter a day after the award show aired to voice his opinion. In a series of xweets, Soulja called out the lack of Hip-Hop and R&B stars at the event. He also mentioned BET and wondered why certain artists like NBA Youngboy never performed at the former or the VMAs

“VMAs was wack. No Travis [Scott], and he just dropped [the] best album. No Lil Baby. Where was 50 Cent? Ain’t this 50 years of Hip-Hop? F**k this sh*t free [Young] Thug,” he began. “Why Young Boy ain’t ever perform at VMAs or BET? Music game f**ked up let the real ones shine.”

“I mean where was Drake? Where was Beyoncé? Jay-Z? Ye? MTV fell off, simple,” he concluded. “Let’s see what they do next year. Not impressed. At all.”

And this isn’t the first time the Southern rapper spoke his mind about Hip-Hop’s representation. In early August 2023, Soulja Boy paid his respects to Hip-Hop and also detailed how he took criticism in his career. However, he asserted that now the game has normalized all the tools he used to get on as an entertainer.

“When I came in the game they said I killed hip hop. But really, I birthed the new wave of hip hop with internet/streaming. Ahead of my time. #HipHop50

“Now everyone vlogs their career like me. Now everyone uploads their music to the internet,” he added. “Now everyone goes live for their fans. I started it. Thank me or not. Flowers/Credit or not. #HipHop50
